International Baccalaureate (IB)
The IB Organization awards either a diploma or a certificate for individual IB exams. Students requesting Credit for Prior Learning using International Baccalaureate (IB) shall receive credit for completing a satisfactory score on a district approved high-level International Baccalaureate (IB) examination under the following circumstances:
- Mt. San Jacinto College
- MSJC accepts IB exams.
- Through students IB exams, units may be applied towards MSJC general education and towards major requirements.
- Students must complete 12 units per the residency requirement, in order to earn a degree from MSJC.
- California State University (CSUs)
- IB exams may be used towards transfer to a CSU.
- Students may apply IB credit toward general education and/or lower-division major requirements.
- The IB curriculum offers language at various levels for native and non-native speakers. Language B courses are offered at the intermediate level for non-natives. Language A1 and A2 are advanced courses in literature for native and non-native speakers, respectively.
- Each campus in the California State University system determines how they will apply IB external examinations toward credit in the major preparation.
- Students who have earned credit from an IB exam should not take a comparable college course because transfer credit will not be granted for both.
- University of California (UCs)
- UC awards students who complete the IB diploma with a score of 30 or above with 4 semester units (6 quarter) toward their UC degree, in addition to the units earned for individual Higher Level exams (usually 16 semester units or 24 quarter units). Students who receive IB certificates with scores of 5, 6 or 7 on Higher Level exams will receive 5.3 semester units (8 quarter).
- Designated examinations are awarded elective units which may be applied to UC graduation requirements for specific subjects and/or for general education/breadth requirements, as determined by each campus.
- Each campus in the University of California system determines how they will apply IB external examinations toward credit in the major preparation.
- Students who have earned credit from an IB exam should not take a comparable college course because transfer credit will not be granted for both.
