Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

This course provides the technical knowledge and practical skills to select and utilize appropriate clinical supplies to successfully perform venipuncture, capillary puncture and arterial draws. Topics covered in this course includes OSHA, HIPAA and CDC safety and compliance, blood and blood components, patient preparation, routine collection of blood and non-blood samples, specimen collection, labeling, processing, transportation, and chain of custody.
Prerequisite/Corequisite: MLT-702 (with a grade of C or better).

This course provides the basic foundational training for laboratory personnel working in the laboratory in medical offices, clinical and hospital settings. The course introduces students to a variety of laboratory techniques and equipment used in the clinical laboratory. Topics covered in this course include laboratory safety, specimen collection, processing and reporting, and procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, blood banking and urinalysis.
Prerequisite/Corequisite: MLT-701 (with a grade of C or better).
