PHOT-125  Digital Photography Production I  

3 Units (LEC 48-54)

This course provides practical, technical, critical and creative instruction in digital photographic theory and workflow. It covers fundamental photographic principles, theory and exposure essentials, referencing digital, and emerging tools like mirrorless and computational capture. Coursework is project-based and immersive. Students will acquire skill sets pertaining to the digital paradigm that will allow them to master acquisition, manipulation, and digital output to current professional industry standards.

Recommended Preparation: DIG-110.

PHOT-299  Special Projects: Digital Photography  

1-3 Unit (IS 16-54)

Students with previous course work in the program may do special projects that involve research and special study. The actual nature of the project must be determined in consultation with the supervising instructor.

Prerequisite: Two Digital Photography classes must be completed prior to enrollment; a Special Projects contract must be completed with the instructor prior to enrollment.

PHOT-524  Intermediate Photography  

3 Units (LEC 48-54)

This course builds on foundational photographic knowledge and advances both technical and conceptual skills toward professional standards. Students will develop proficiency in workflow strategies, file management, and lighting design while expanding their creative practice through critique and production. Emphasis is placed on adapting to evolving technologies in the photography industry and producing culturally responsive work that reflects diverse perspectives. As the second of three core courses in the photography degree and certificate sequence, this course equips students with competitive skills for transfer and professional contexts.

PHOT-525  Advanced Photography  

3 Units (LEC 48-54)

This advanced course builds on skills developed in PHOT-524, preparing students to operate at a professional level in contemporary photographic practice. Students engage in intensive studio, location, and post-production projects that emphasize conceptual development, technical mastery, and portfolio refinement. Coursework includes advanced digital archiving, professional workflow strategies, high-level lighting design, and output for diverse contexts, including fine art exhibition, commercial presentation, and digital platforms. Students have expanded access to industry-standard equipment and studios to support intensive, self-directed production work. The course culminates in the creation of a cohesive, professional-quality portfolio and participation in sustained critique designed to refine artistic voice and prepare for transfer, exhibition, or industry employment.

PHOT-530  History of Photography  

3 Units (LEC 48-54)

This courses offers students a historical survey of photography from its ancient origins through contemporary digital practices. The course emphasizes technological, artistic, cultural, and social developments, as well as the impact of photography on science, politics, and visual culture. Students will engage with primary sources, critical readings, and historically-based projects to deepen their understanding of photography's history and legacy.

PHOT-549  Work Experience Education: Photography

This experiential learning course places students in supervised internships related to their academic major or career interests. Through hands-on work experience, students will build upon classroom-based learning and develop transferable skills. Internship work sites must be approved by the college prior to enrollment.

Other Enrollment Criteria: Each student must be enrolled for the full semester and have completed one course in the discipline. Student must also complete a WEE Orientation and Training Plan (Agreement) prior to registration. Please refer to the Work Experience Student Handbook for specific information.

PHOT-790  Digital Imaging Studio Laboratory  

1 Unit (LAB 48-54)

This lab course makes the Digital Light Room and Digital Imaging Studio available to intermediate and advanced digital photography students. Students enroll in this lab to be eligible to reserve the Digital Studio to produce project work assigned throughout the photography program. The studio is available to students who have successfully completed the beginning photography course. Students enrolled in this lab must also be concurrently enrolled in the intermediate course or the advanced course.

Prerequisite: PHOT-125 (with a grade of C or better).

Corequisite: PHOT-524 or PHOT-525.

PHOT-791  Professional Production Studio Laboratory  

1 Unit (LAB 48-54)

This advanced lab course makes the Digital "Light Room" and Digital imaging studio available to advanced digital photography students who have completed Digital Photography Production III and seek professional-level photographic challenges in the studio and on location. Students enroll in this course to be eligible to reserve the Digital Studio to produce project work assigned in this production lab.

Prerequisite: PHOT-525 (with a grade of C or better).
