Design (DES)
3 Units (LEC 48-54)
This course is a survey of major design movements. Students will engage in critical insight of influential design forms, tendencies, and aesthetics from ancient to the present from a broad range of cultures across the globe. This course will also explore noteworthy design fields from graphic design, architecture, industrial design, fashion design, and sustainable design which show the lasting effects they have had on societies around the world.

The course approaches the visual communication development process within advertising, identity, data visualization, and motion. The course focuses on design thinking, an approach to both innovation and creative problem solving. Principles of rapid prototyping, ideation processes, and materials determination will be used to finish projects from scratch to a final design piece.
Prerequisite: ART-123 (with a grade of C or better).

3 Units (ACT 96-108)
This course is an introduction to human-centered design through concepts in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) including web development, script programming, application development, syntax, object-oriented principles, memory management, and functional interactive concepts. Students will use storyboarding and wireframes to design user interfaces for applications with multiple pages to plan and create full-scale projects.
Prerequisite: ART-131 (with a grade of C or better), and ART-123 (with a grade of C or better).
