Standards for Probation

Academic Warning (Probation)

A student who has attempted at least twelve (12) semester units as shown by the official academic record shall be placed on Academic Warning (probation) if the student has earned a grade-point average of below 2.0 (C) in all units that were graded on the basis of the grading scale.

A student who has two (2) consecutive terms with an earned grade-point average of below 2.0 (C) and are placed on Academic Warning (Probation) Level Two (2) may have a hold placed on their registration. The student will need to attend an Academic Success Workshop in its entirety to have the registration hold released; however, the student will remain on Academic Warning (Probation) Level Two (2) until the requirement is met for removal of warning (probation).

Progress Warning (Probation)

A student who has enrolled in a total of at least twelve (12) semester units as shown by the official academic record shall be placed on progress probation when the percentage of all units in which a student has enrolled and for which entries of “W,” “I,” “NC” and “NP” are recorded reaches or exceeds fifty percent (50%). While on warning (probation) status, the college will make every reasonable effort to provide counseling and other support services to a student on probation to help the student overcome any academic difficulties. This assistance may include the regulation of the student’s study load in accordance with the demonstrated aptitudes and achievements.

A student who has two (2) consecutive terms when the percentage of all units in which a student has enrolled and for which entries of “W,” “I,” “NC” and “NP” are recorded reaches or exceeds fifty percent (50%) and are placed on Progress Warning (Probation) Level Two (2) may have a hold placed on their registration. The student will need to attend an Academic Success Workshop in its entirety to have the registration hold released; however, the student will remain on Progress Warning (Probation) Level Two (2) until the requirement is met for removal of warning (probation) status.

Students receiving financial assistance are also subject to additional Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.

Removal from Probation

A student on academic warning (probation) for a grade point deficiency shall be removed from warning (probation) when the student’s cumulative grade-point average is 1.75 or higher.

A student on progress warning (probation) because of an excess of units where entries of “W,” “I,” “NC” and “NP” are recorded shall be removed from warning (probation) when the percentage of units in this category drops below fifty percent (50%).
