Program Description
Computers are ubiquitous. They are in our hospitals, our educational institutions, our businesses, and our homes. In CIS you will explore how digital solutions are analyzed, developed, and implemented into artifacts that humans use every day. As a CIS graduate, the world will be your oyster. Your skills are in great demand in all fields of business, industry, and education. From Computer Hardware Specialist to Cybersecurity, Networking, Programming, and Web Development, you will be able to choose a career pathway that is both meaningful and pays higher wages than most jobs today. You will be exposed to tools and practices that are used the world over as you prepare to launch yourself into the exciting and demanding world of Computer Information Systems.

Transfer Preparation
MSJC offers a wide range of course work that prepares students for the workforce or for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. All four-year institutions prescribe their own standards for course evaluation and admissions. Courses that fulfill major requirements for an associate degree in a program at MSJC might not be the same as those required for transfer into a similar major at a four-year university. Please meet with a Counselor to confirm transfer requirements.
Transfer students are advised to do research on prospective majors and careers. The MSJC Transfer Center and MSJC catalog can be helpful tools. Students interested in transferring to CSU’s or UC’s can access major preparation by visiting ASSIST. All students are advised to meet with a counselor at least once a semester to create or update their comprehensive education plan.

- Analyze technical information, as well as listen effectively to, communicate orally with, and prepare memos, reports and documentation for a wide range of audiences.
- Investigate and assess new sources of information and learning opportunities to stay abreast of emerging information and computing technologies.
- List career paths related to the program of study, as well as any qualifications and/or professional certifications that may be associated with those careers.
