Computer Forensics Employment Concentration
Computer forensics specialists use investigative techniques to analyze digital evidence from computers, mobile devices, and other digital media. They use this evidence to solve computer-related crimes and improve cybersecurity.
Aside from working to collect evidence, computer forensics professionals can also work in data recovery. When it comes to data recovery, forensics professionals can take broken hard drives, crashed servers and other compromised devices and retrieve the data that was previously lost.
Computer forensics has become an increasingly popular field over the years. The computer forensics industry is predicted to grow by 11% by the year 2033. Due to higher caseloads, state and local government are predicted to hire additional computer forensic science technicians in order to keep up with the demand. In-depth media coverage of local and national criminal cases/data breaches, along with the popularity of forensic television shows, aids in more public awareness around the importance of computer forensic science.
This employment concentration is designed to provide a foundational set of courses that introduce students to the field of computer forensics. The program aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills needed for entry-level roles in computer forensics and serve as a preparatory pathway toward pursuing an advanced degree in the field.
